Observers have a natural ability to detach from feelings, needs, and other people. Clarity and a cool head prevail for the Five in situations where others are emotional or succumbing to chaos. The observer stance lends itself to keen observational powers. Fives are often good listeners and do not push what they know onto others. Fives are independent, self-contained people. They delve deeply into areas of knowledge that excite them, often becoming experts in subjects they explore. They exhibit a highly developed capacity for systematization of thought, for analyzing and synthesizing complex information.

Dark Side of The Gift: Five's approach can be overly mental when a more feeling approach is called for. They can seem to be distant or emotionally unavailable to the other types. Observers can seem disengaged with life, preferring the mental realms of thought to interaction. Their strong needs for privacy can extend to isolation. A belief that energy is limited can lead to compartmentalization of life. There are compartments for work, relationship,and leisure each with their concomitant time limits. Fives can withhold information, time, energy, and even themselves.

Internal TerrainFives have strong feelings just like everyone else, but prefer to deal with them later when safely alone. Observers feel that they only have so much energy and can be overwhelmed by too much input. They need blocks of private time to recharge. Yet, Fives can put out enormous amounts of energy if they know what is expected of them. They dislike open-ended unpredictable situations. Observers accumulate knowledge; they want to understand. Fives often feel safer if they do not share all that they know keeping some knowledge in reserve.

MY PERSONAL STATEMENT

According to the book, this is how I want to be percieved. Well, how I want to be perceived is partly how I'd like to become and partly who I truly am. That said, I'd like to be seen in the following ways:

Strong
Confident
Capable
In Control
Independent

The best word I can come up with for all of that is "Self-Contained"

I feel that I am, for the most part:

Compassionate/Loving/Caring
Giving
Understanding
Tolerant
Nurturing/Helpful

I suppose the best word to use here is simply.... "Compassionate"

I also see myself as:

Creative/Artistic
Unique/Individualistic
Sensitive/Aware
Sensuous
Curious

The only word I can really think of to encompass all of those words is "Aesthetic"

So.............
I want to project a self-contained, compassionate and aesthetic image.

Self-Conatined and the first group of words, makes me think of Classic.

Compassionate and the second group of words, makes me think of Romantic.

Aesthetic and the third group of words makes me think of both Romantic and Creative.

Do I have a Classic, Romantic and Creative image??

Perhaps I have not chosen the best final words to describe myself. (?)

Actually................

The first group of words and Self-Contained/Classic is what I desire to become because I feel it will help me/benefit me in life.There are certain aspects of Self-Contained/Classic that I have always had but I would in no way, whatsoever, deem myself to be Self-Contained/Classic.

The second and third groups of words of Compassionate/Romantic and Aesthetic/Creative are what I truly am inwardly, and always have been since childhood. That is my true self.

I learned through this book that, romanticism and creativity have been a constant throughout my life, while other aspects of being have come and gone.

I have *acted* and dressed the part of: a dramatic/flamboyant, gamine, sophisticate, etc, etc., and although there may truly be aspects of those types within me, none of them are my true being.

I am an idealist and am sensitive and sensuous.... a Romanticist (not to be mistaken for a sappy, love-lorn romantic ;P).

I had actually realized that prior to getting this book and that is why I created my blog and called myself an Aesthetic Romanticist.

We often times in life, for whatever reason, hide our true selves - I have done so for protection, we live in a cruel world and I came from an insensitive home. I had to create a character to play, as far back as high school, in order to survive in the ignorant, selfish, uncaring society in which I feel that I live. However, I need not hide any longer. The mean, ignorant turds that want to make fun of my heart and emotions, my deep caring of the Earth and all that reside on her, my views on how life should be and how people should behave, can kiss my ever loving ASS!

And I say that with kindness and compassion for all of societies turds. :D

PASSION EXERCISE

Initially we use this simple exercise as a startng point with our clients, a kind of "getting to know you" tool. But we quickly realized that it touches upon something much more powerful than just introductions. We continue to be amazed at how revealing our clients' answers are, how open, honest, and generous most people are, and therefore how ready they are for our program.

We now ask you to do the exercise. Please write your answers to the following questions:

What things do you love and feel passionately about?

What things do you dislike and feel passionately about?

We suggest that you spend some time thinking about your answers to these two questions. They will become the foundation for your personal style.

Write about your passions in some detail. If your list sounds something like this-- "Love my car, love to travel, love my dog"-- then you have not dug deeply enough. You must emotionally connect to the things you feel passionately about. Your passions may stimulate your mind or emotions to such a high level that they prompt you to take action. You may love something so much that you sacrifice your time, your money, or even your relationships for the sake of that which moves you! One of your passions may be so excruciatingly beautiful that you have difficulty just writing about it. These are the kinds of passions we'd like you to identify.

Defining That Which Is Me: Part Deux

Arty
As the name suggests, Arty is a creative thinker, if not necessarily a genuine artist. Arty's wardrobe is her canvas, and her clothes express her love of picturesque and inventive artistic themes. Just as art has its various schools, Arty's unique aesthetic values can exhibit a range of tastes, from brooding value studies to showy kaleidoscopic abstractions. Arty eschews the conventional in favor of the unique, and though she might wear a mass-produced Mona Lisa T-shirt, she cherishes the true uniqueness of hand crafted items. Sometimes she goes as far as to make her own clothing and accessories, and often to embellish store-bought items to suit her tastes and make the common uncommon.

Exotic
The term "exotic" denotes something foreign and strikingly and excitingly different, and Exotic Fashion Types relish the most intriguing and mysterious curiosities the world has to offer. Exotic may be a traveler *(or only wish)*, or may have imported her native exotica from another land. She eats exotic food, listens to exotic music, and surrounds herself with rich, smoky colors, long, flowing lines, elaborate beading and embroidery, mysteriously ornate patterns, iridescent textures, jungle/Animal prints, paisleys, mosaics, etc., in her home decor and in her dress (often in combinations alien to the Western eye), and typically accessorizes with a bedazzling profusion of shiny bracelets and other jewelry.

Defining an Aesthetic Romanticist

I view myself as many things, and in trying to find just a few words to define how I see myself, I came across these meanings for aesthetic, which is inclusive of my love of beauty, creativity and sensuous nature (as in, pertaing to the senses).

Aesthetic:

Having a sense of the beautiful; characterized by a love of beauty.

Artistic: The play was an aesthetic success.

Relating to the sensations.

Iwould also describe myself as: Emotional/Sensitive, Idealistic, Imaginative, Individualistic/Unique. I have a sense of adventure, a respect for the past and other places and times - old world and other worldly. I wish for gallantry to make a comeback. I have a regard for tradition, although I would not at all call myself a traditionalist. I am quite pensive and inwardly centered. I love mystery and am intrigued by the unknown and unseen - the transcendental. I have a GREAT revere for nature. Thusly I am a.......

Romanticist:

Although not all of the following applies, I do think it pretty well defines the bulk of me.

Romanticism emphasized the individual, the subjective, the irrational, the imaginative, the personal, the spontaneous, the emotional, the visionary, and the transcendental.

"Romanticism is precisely situated neither in choice of subject nor exact truth, but in a way of feeling."

Visionary, idealistic

A heightened interest in nature, emphasis on the individual's expression of emotion and imagination.

Among the characteristic attitudes of Romanticism were the following: a deepened appreciation of the beauties of nature; a general exaltation of emotion over reason and of the senses over intellect; a turning in upon the self and a heightened examination of human personality and its moods and mental potentialities; a preoccupation with the genius, the hero, and the exceptional figure in general, and a focus on his passions and inner struggles; a new view of the artist as a supremely individual creator, whose creative spirit is more important than strict adherence to formal rules and traditional procedures; an emphasis upon imagination as a gateway to transcendent experience and spiritual truth; an obsessive interest in folk culture, national and ethnic cultural origins, and the medieval era; and a predilection for the exotic, the remote, the mysterious, the weird, the occult, the monstrous, the diseased, and even the satanic.

Individualism:
The Romantics asserted the importance of the individual, the unique, even the eccentric.

Imagination:
The Romantics tended to define and to present the imagination as our ultimate "shaping" or creative power, the approximate human equivalent of the creative powers of nature or even deity.

Other Places and Times/The Unknown and Unseen:
as opposed to everyday subjects, various forms of the exotic in time and/or place also gained favor, for the Romantics were also fascinated with realms of existence that were, by definition, prior to or opposed to the ordered conceptions of "objective" reason.

Nature:
While particular perspectives with regard to nature varied considerably--nature as a healing power, nature as a source of subject and image, nature as a refuge from the artificial constructs of civilization, including artificial language--the prevailing views accorded nature the status of an organically unified whole. It was viewed as "organic," rather than, as in the scientific or rationalist view, as a system of "mechanical" laws,
