I Am Sorry Mr. or Ms. Squirrel......
I feel very badly today. :-(
On my way to work this morning, a squirrel ran across the road in front of me. I swirved to avoid hitting it but I did something else to the poor critter instead!
The little honey had a big ole donut in his/her mouth and I frightened it enough that it dropped the donut right smack in the middle of the road, it ran like lightning to the opposite side of the road that it came from and disappeared. :-(
I felt soooooo badly about this that I backed up and got out to look for the donut. I was going to find the donut and throw it in the direction that I saw the squirrel head. I figured it could come out when it calmed down and get its breakfast in safety. :-)
I never found the donut.... maybe I did not back up far enough, maybe it got crushed? Anyway... I feel horrible because I have no idea what kind of effort that creature put into finding and obtaining that donut or how far it traveled with said donut until it met up with me!
I am sorry squirrel, sorry that you lost your breakfast, sorry that I frightened you, but I did try to find your breakfast and give it back to you! Does effort count? :D

ACK! I read the first part of this post and was all prepared to hear that you hit the little guy! LOL! I'm glad of course that you didn't, but sometimes it just happens and there's nothing you can do. :-( I've been known to cry off and on all day after an incident - even if I'm just a witness to someone else's hit. I try to cry in private though, because most people don't understand why it would bother me so much.
I am a crier too, Peggy. I have such empathy for animals... breaks my heart to see them dead in the road :-(
I am so very glad that I did not hit the squirrel. :-)
